Architecture Review
Single-engagement architecture review for a specific decision, system, or proposal. Documented, decision-focused, no ongoing commitment.
The right moment.
Engagements are most useful when the moment is right. Below are the situations where this kind of work has produced the most value — for the client, and for the architectures that have followed.
A vendor has proposed an architecture and you want an independent technical review before signing.
An internal team is proposing a major change and the leadership needs a defensible second opinion.
You've inherited a system and want a clear, written assessment of its posture, risks, and remediation paths.
You're deciding between two technical approaches and need a documented recommendation.
Tangible deliverables.
A written architecture review document — observations, findings, risks, recommendations.
A walkthrough session with the leadership and engineering teams.
Stated assumptions and the trade-offs underneath each recommendation.
Optional: a follow-up working session sixty days later to review what was acted upon.
Engagement structure.
Scoping
A short conversation to establish the question being asked, the materials available, and the intended audience for the review.
Two-week review window
Documentation review, structured stakeholder interviews, and synthesis — concluded with a written deliverable and walkthrough.
Decision support
The deliverable is decision-focused. It does not recommend a vendor unless the question requires it. It surfaces what is load-bearing, what is risky, and what is irreversible.
Where this work has lived.
Three-month modernization and migration engagements for Hashmap (and NTT Data, post-acquisition) clients (Poly/Plantronics, SEI Investments, Juniper Networks) — producing modernization plans, design documents, and resourcing and project plans. Snowflake security frameworks, column- and row-level AWS data security patterns (Pulumi, Glue, Lake Formation, Athena), and on-premises-to-cloud analytics modernization.
Reviewed and rebuilt a metadata-driven serverless Lambda framework — pipelines deployed from YAML configurations, replacing the repetitive ETL code path with declarative configuration.
